One of the ways to prevent website content theft is to report copyright infringement to Google DMCA. If one day you encounter other websites copying your content without citing the original article link (backlink), you can report it to Google to protect your website content, as well as your children. your brainchild.
Things to know before doing it
If this is your first time reporting DMCA copyright infringement to Google, read through these contents to be well prepared.
Give them a chance to correct their mistakes
Lucid Gen would like to suggest a more peaceful solution before reporting copyright infringement to Google. Email the offending website owner and ask them to delete the article or add a backlink to your original article. Give them 3 to 7 days to correct the mistake. The content of the email must be serious and deterrent, but not vulgar.
Lucid Gen suggests this method because of the element of “sympathy” among professionals. Maybe they are also trying to make a living to support their families, maybe they also do not know the serious consequences they will receive from content copyright infringement, and maybe that website was their passion child when it was discovered. They first made a website. Give them a chance to correct their mistake. If they don’t correct it, it’s not too late for you to report it.
Consequences of a website being reported to Google DMCA
“Every mistake has a price” is a familiar saying in every profession. If they violate DMCA content copyright and you successfully report it to Google, they must bear the following consequences.
- Violating content is removed from search results.
If Google approves your content copyright infringement report. All offending URLs will be removed from search results. - SEO and overall search rankings are affected.
If a series of URLs are lost from search results, traffic will decrease, and the SEO performance of other content will also be negatively affected. - Google rates pirated websites low.
Google hates copyright infringement the most in their playground. Someone told Lucid Gen that if a domain name is successfully reported for content copyright infringement, that domain name will be considered “abandoned”.
You must be the author of the article
It may sound redundant, but Lucid Gen wanted to write this section to send to those who intend to “rob and scream simultaneously”. There have been many cases where the pirate has reported copyright infringement to the real author. It’s funny, no one will sit still and let them do that. Authors can appeal to Google with all their evidence and are usually successful. At this point, the stealing party will have the infringing content removed and bear the consequences mentioned above by Lucid Gen, and Google will reduce trust in them in future lawsuits.
Using DMCA is an advantage
There are many ways to help authors prove that their content was stolen, for example, they inserted logos into images before it was stolen, and their content was indexed as soon as possible… Then using DMCA also gives you an advantage when reporting copyright infringement to Google. If Google requires the author to provide additional information for the report, the DMCA can help the real author state that their article is protected by the DMCA sooner than the infringing website.
