Many users search for ways to edit messages on Messenger, but most of them couldn’t do it because the app didn’t support this feature—however, that’s a thing of the past. Since December 2023, after sending a message to friends or family, users can fully edit it within 15 minutes for any reason. This is a brand-new feature introduced by developers, available on both Android and iOS devices.
Can you edit sent messages on Messenger?

What makes this feature especially valuable is that the other person cannot view the edit history and has no way of knowing what the original message said. This is extremely helpful if you accidentally send something inappropriate—rather than unsending it and drawing attention, you can simply edit the content. Additionally, users can still edit messages even after they’ve been read. However, your friends will still see the “Edited” label on these messages.
When should you edit a sent message?
There are many reasons why users may want to change a message after sending it—both objective and subjective. In my opinion, this feature is especially useful in the following cases:
- Typos or Telex input errors that make the message hard to understand.
- The message contains incorrect information that could cause misunderstanding.
- After sending multiple messages, you want to edit one in the middle without retyping everything.
- You want to change your opinion or decision.
- You accidentally said something inappropriate.
Whatever the reason, let’s move on to the most important part below: how to edit Messenger messages in just 5 seconds.
