How to track Tawk.to conversions with Google Tag Manager

Measuring conversions Tawk.to what we should do when running Google Ads ads with websites that use chat windows Tawk.to. Recording conversions will help Google understand what we want to get from ads, making it possible for Google Ads accounts to use conversion-focused bid methods.

What is Tawk.to conversion?

For Tawk.to, conversions can be the act of customers starting a chat, customers filling in information before chatting, or customers leaving messages when you’re not online.

You can choose only one action that you want to do the conversion, for example just filling in the information before the chat is the conversion you want. Or select all actions that are conversions. This is the last step in the article (adding goals in Analytics).

It’s simple to understand that we add a chat event Tawk.to Analytics and select it as a goal, then import the goal from Google Analytics into Google Ads as a conversion.

Steps to measure conversion Tawk.to:

Step 1: Insert Tawk.to With Tag Manager with special HTML.

Step 2: Add the event action variable Tawk.to.

Step 3: Add the event trigger Tawk.to.

Step 4: Add a Google Analytics event tracking tag.

Step 5: Import conversions from Google Analytics into Google Ads.

To measure chat conversionsTawk.to you must use event push code, not the default code Tawk.to provide. Sign in Tawk.to to get the widget code, and then https://embed.tawk.to/XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/default line into the code below.

In Google Tag Manager you add a custom HTML tag with a piece of code that has just been replaced. Use the trigger to view the All Pages page as shown below.

If you have ever inserted Tawk.to code for the website, whether inserted into the website source code or inserted with Google Tag Manager, it will also be removed and inserted again with the code above.

We need more variables to push the Tawk.to. In Google Tag Manager, you continue to add Data Layer Variables with the eventAction variable name. Note both the top and bottom of the name as shown.

Next, we add a custom Event trigger with the event name as tawk.to. The name of the trigger is okay. It’s simple, isn’t it? It’s going to be a little harder next time.

Add a Google Analytics event tracking tag

Almost done, now we add the Google Analytics – Universal Analytics tag to receive the conversion event Tawk.to, you configure the following:

  • Track type: Event
  • Category: Tawk.to
  • Task: click the right button select {{eventAction}}
  • Label: click the right button select {{Page Path}}
  • Turn on the override setting in this tag, enter your Google Analytics tracking ID.

You can now check your own Tawk.to google analytics in Real Time and Events. You open the website to try chatting and wait a few seconds, you will see the conversion event Tawk.to appear. Like the photo below.

If that’s the case, you’ve already successfully pushed the event into Analytics. Now you just need to add one more step to get Google Ads conversions offline.

In Google Analytics, click Admin adds goals and configures the following:

  • Set goals: Custom
  • Name: as you set
  • Target type: Event
  • Target details: Equal tawk.to

The task you suggested you leave blank. If you fill out, you fill in the Event Action that you see in the real-time check step, for example, Chat Started. As such, only chat start actions are counted, actions such as chat when you are not online will not count.

Next, in order for Google Ads to receive data from Google Analytics, you go back to Admin and link to Google Ads, choose to share all data.

Now that you’re new to Google Ads, you go to the Convert select tool. Add new conversions and import from Google Analytics, select the goal you just added in Google Analytics.

Ending

Converting Tawk.to from Analytics into Google Ads will be slower than watching live in Analytics. After you’ve done your conversion Tawk.to, click your ads yourself and do a chat to see if Google Ads has received the conversion.
