Advantages and disadvantages of target on competitors’ customers

Advantage: When targeting at the competitor’s customers, you will not save time and cost to create funnel, create demand for new customers. You just run a sales ad to customers who are interested in products on your competitor’s site.

Disadvantage: Real customers with mixed seeding, only competitors really know, and you don’t. So there is a possibility that you may also have a file containing seeding from your competitor, not the potential customer. But do not worry, usually the seeding rate / real customer is very small, especially on mature sites, there are almost only real customers.

Steps to target a competitor’s customers

Find out what competitors’ pages are on Facebook

On your page or any competitor’s page, navigate to the Introduction section . Then you click on the category of the page . For example, Lucid Gen’s category is Blogger, Personal Blog and Beauty – Cosmetics & Personal Care (I just added this as an example for the article).

Find the page’s About section, click the category

Here I will choose a great site with a green accent, for example, you can choose many pages below.

Choose the sites of great competitors to get their customer files

Once you’ve found your competitors in the same industry. The next thing we need to do is find articles that are attracting their engagement. Please follow the instructions below.

Find competitor’s interactive posts

On a page, there will be 2 types of posts: articles posted directly on the page and hidden articles that are not visible on the page because of running ads. I will guide you on how to find both types.

Find articles right on the page

Right on the page is too easy, scroll through until you find articles with lots of engagement (Like and comment) like this.

Look for interactive articles from your competitors’ customers

When you find any, save it. There are 3 ways to save as follows:

Share on your personal page: It’s also easy, but lest your friends see you share too much they unfollow.

Save as Direct Link: By clicking on the post date, you will get the link for that post. Please save it in notes or Excel.

Save articles for later viewing: you click the 3-dot button at the top right of the post, select Save article.

On the home page of Facebook, go to the Saved section on the left menu column to review your saved posts.

In case you do not see any articles that report many interactions, there are 2 cases:

  1. The competitor created the post in the ad manager so the posts with lots of engagement wouldn’t appear on the page for you to find.
  2. You hit the competitor’s page too small, they don’t have anything.

Become an advertiser of your competitor to find promotional articles

Step 1: First we need to determine if competitors are running ads or not. Go to the Transparency section of the page , click View all .

Step 2: Please see Ads from this Page. If it says “This page is running ads” then it is correct. Click the Go to Ad Library button to see how they’re promoting articles.

Scan phone number on competitor’s posts
